Monterey Bay / Du Motion Half Marathons continue sister city runner exchange

Monterey County residents once again have an opportunity to win a trip to run in the Du-Motion – Runners’ Day Dubrovnik half marathon in Croatia, April 28 – 29, 2018. This is the second year in a row that a sister city runner exchange has taken place. Monterey County residents have the option to enter when they register for the Monterey Bay Half Marathon, or they can enter to win by stopping by the Du-Motion booth at the Monterey Bay Half Marathon’s Health & Fitness Expo at the Portola Hotel in Monterey on Friday or Saturday, November 10 and 11. No purchase or pre-registration is required.

The cities of Monterey and Dubrovnik have built a strong relationship since formalizing a sister city agreement in 2006.

“It’s wonderful to see our bond extending into this runner exchange, and in fact we see a potential to expand our sister city relationship into other types of exchanges such as local youth and music programs,” said City Manager Mike McCarthy.

Doug Thurston, race director of the Big Sur Marathon Foundation said, “This runner exchange has been a great way to build awareness about the positive impact of sister cities, not only in the running community, but in the local community as a whole.”

Lorenso Trevino won the trip last year, and had this to say about his experience: “Running the Du-Motion Half Marathon in Dubrovnik and just being in this wonderful city was an amazing cultural experience. I can’t thank the City of Monterey, the Big Sur Marathon Foundation, and Du-Motion enough for giving my wife and me this opportunity.”

“Du Motion is now a two-day festival of running and we’re listening to our runners and striving to raise the event to an even greater level every year. We also continue to share experiences and learn from friends from Monterey, who will always be our dear guests in Dubrovnik. Friendships through sport and healthy lifestyle are the core of these events, just as true friendship connects our cities,” said Du Motion director Alen Boskovic.
